If you’ve been suffering with emotional eating, binge eating or unhealthy habits around food for many years, THE MOST IMPORTANT SKILL (and, YES it is a skill!) to develop is the ability to BACK YOURSELF!
So here goes – Let’s attend “CONFIDENCE SCHOOL”!
I’m about to show you exactly what you need to develop that skill.
If you find yourself going round in circles with your relationship with food or your body, then you MUST address this issue. Otherwise, quite frankly, you’ll forever be stuck taking one step forward, two steps back, and always struggling with an “all or nothing” mentality.
And… if you DON’T address this issue, things will actually get worse! Because the longer you struggle, the more you reinforce the belief that “nothing works for me!” and the closer you get to turning your fear – “what if I never overcome these issues?!” – into a reality.
If I’ve just described you, then you’ll almost certainly struggle with variations of the following beliefs:
– “Nothing works for me”
– “I’ve tried EVERYTHING!”
– – “I’m just meant to be this way”
– “I’ll never overcome my issues with (food / my body)”
We must, I repeat MUST, change this to your own personalised version of:
“I CAN and WILL completely transform my relationship with food, my body, and my life! I will do whatever it takes to make this happen. Whatever happens, I WILL find a way!”
But before we get there we need to destroy the old bullshit lies you used to tell yourself because NO ONE else will dig you out of your own grave.
Beliefs are made to FEEL real by what we call references. These are the bits of evidence you use to “prove” your fears are “true”.
There are 3 types:
1. Personal experience: You’ve tried to fix your issues and haven’t succeeded (yet).
2. External references: Other people have also tried and failed
3. Your imagination: You’ve spent enough time IMAGINING failure that it feels like the only reality you can imagine that seems believable.
NONE of these references are proof! They are all part of the elaborate story you tell yourself about why you can’t have what you want.
Think about it, as humans we MUST find a way of achieving things we’ve never done before. Otherwise we’d all still be living in caves without even the luxury of fire!
Just because you haven’t succeeded YET does that REALLY mean you can’t do it? Or does it mean there’s still something for you to learn?
Have you REALLY tried EVERYTHING?! Or have you really just tried the same one or two things over and over again? Or have you only tried what doesn’t work?
*Quick Side note – I hear a lot of ladies say “I did this diet or training plan 2 years ago and it worked. I lost 5kg. But I now have 7kg to lose.” HELLO!! IT DIDN’T WORK!! Because if it did you wouldn’t be 7kg overweight now would you! Stop having the wool pulled over your eyes with these cheap and filthy, fat gaining solutions!!*
I DIGRESS…..
What about other people? If you obsess over finding proof that people can fail at personal growth then you’ll surely find it. But if you obsess over finding the success stories, you’ll find those too.
What about your imagination? Have you ever been utterly convinced you’ve sent an email or text message to someone, even gotten impatient that they haven’t replied, only to discover you merely IMAGINED sending it?! (Umm totally guilty of this having had Xavier!)
We can imagine things vividly enough that our brains misinterpret those things as the truth. What have you imagined enough times that you’ve tricked your brain into thinking that’s the way things are, or the way they’ll always be?
When you systematically take the time to call yourself on your own BS you open the doors for a new relationship with food, with your body, with your life.
Trust me, you CAN overcome these issues totally and completely. We’ve seen it enough times. But it all starts with trust, faith, and the ability to back yourself. Even if you’ve never done it before, if you’re COMMITTED, you WILL find a way.
You either believe you can or your can’t. Whichever it is will dictate your results!
